Lawsuit accues baseball star of unpaid child support

Unfortunately, when a family separates, the cost of living goes up. In the state of Texas, both parents have a moral and legal obligation to support their children. Child support laws are in place to ensure that parents live up to their financial responsibilities regarding their children. If one parent fails to meet these responsibilities, legal action may be appropriate. Recently, a lawsuit was filed against major league baseball player Jose Reyes amid accusations of failing to pay child support.

According to the claim, Reyes is not paying the owed 17 percent of his income in child support. Reyes has a 7-year-old daughter with the plaintiff. The plaintiff alleges that Reyes has failed to sufficiently support their daughter financially.

The plaintiff also claims that, on top of failing his daughter financially, he also fails to be a sufficient father and has no desire to be in their daughter's life. The plaintiff asserts that, due to Reyes's absence, their daughter is growing up without a father. Statements by Reyes's lawyers claim that their records show that the MLB star meets all of his financial obligations.

It can be terribly frustrating when one side fails to follow through on agreements and obligations. However, understanding child support laws in the state of Texas could have a positive outcome and benefit both parents and children. It is no secret that legal disputes involving separation and children can be very stressful and emotional. Seeking the services of an experienced family law attorney can make the process easier and less stressful for all parties involved.
