Socialite lobbyist alleging harassment by wife

Some political figures and other residents in Texas may be probably paying close attention to a divorce that is building in Washington, D.C. That is because the divorce involves one of the most powerful lobbyists in the area. On April 3, Tony Podesta filed for divorce from his wife of 11 years, Heather. The two are known for their flamboyant lifestyle, their extensive art collection and the open manner in which they carry out their power lobbying.

According to the details revealed in the filings, Podesta claimed that his wife misled him into believing that they were going to reconcile in order to get him to put up half of the down payment on a multimillion dollar home in 2013. He further alleged that at that time, she was in an extramarital relationship with another man unbeknownst to him.

It was 2013 when the two announced that they were splitting up, giving every indication that the split was amicable. Mr. Podesta also allege that his wife has been sending letters to different art museums asking them not to accept any works that he donated. She supposedly changed the locks on a vacation home they owned in Venice, Italy. Mr. Podesta asserted that his wife was using harassing tactics to embarrass him for the purpose of gaining financial leverage during the divorce.

Divorces can often get messy, especially when a significant amount of money is involved. Because of the complexity of the laws concerning divorce, those who are considering it as an option normally seek the counsel of a divorce attorney. Speaking with an attorney may help those seeking to divorce in the often complicated areas of property division and custody disputes.
