Avoiding conflict when a new school year starts

For a child, there’s nothing like the excitement and anticipation of a new school year. Even though they may not show it right now, they are probably bored of summer and ready to meet new classmates, new teachers and experience new things.

Indeed, parents may be feeling the anticipation as well, even though they are nervous about how their kids will handle a new school year. They may also be concerned about how the other parent will handle new changes to their children’s routines. It is not uncommon for disputes to arise when changes to a child’s schedule come about.

Nevertheless, parents must still work together for the benefit of their children. So when a new school year begins, the following can help parents avoid disputes.

Keep the other parent in the loop – Most fights begin when a parent is not given information about their child’s schedule or new developments. Avoiding this problem can be made easier if both parents commit to making sure that the other is informed of necessary information, such as sports schedules, dance recitals and school supply lists.

Make sure the school is informed – In the same vein, the school must be informed that it must send information to both parents if they do not live under the same roof. Both should be listed as contacts, and both email addresses should be listed for correspondence.

Put your personal differences aside – Yes, you may not be able to stand speaking to your ex, but it is essential that you put your personal differences aside to support your children.
