A person’s job impacts many aspects of their life. A person’s occupation can have major ramifications on their financial situation, as jobs vary in their wages and benefits. Also, it can greatly affect how much free time a person has and when this free time occurs, as jobs also differ greatly in their scheduling.

So, different jobs can create different tensions within a person’s life. This includes different potential sources of strain on their personal relationships. So, when married, it can be important for a person to give careful thought to what potential tensions their job could create within a marriage, and what could be done to address these tensions. Job-related tensions within a marriage, particularly when not properly addressed, could put a marriage at a greater risk of divorce.

Different occupations vary in how likely individuals in that occupation are to experience divorce. What occupations have the highest divorce rates? A recent 24/7 Wall St. article gave a list of the 30 jobs with the highest divorce rates. These rankings were based on an analysis of federal survey data. According to the list, the five jobs in which divorce is most common in the U.S. are:

  • No. 1 – gaming managers.
  • No. 2 – bartenders.
  • No. 3 – flight attendants.
  • No. 4 – gaming services workers.
  • No. 5 – certain rolling machine workers.

All five of these occupations were found to have a divorce rate of at least 50 percent. The rate for the job in the No. 1 spot, gaming managers, was 52.9 percent.

While some jobs might put a greater strain on a marriage than others, a person in any field can end up in a divorce.
