Johnson, Lozada headed for divorce after 41-day marriage

Many married couples in Texas have a lot of firsts to look forward to: first home, first child, first anniversary. However, with the imminent divorce of Chad Johnson and Evelyn Lozada, one unique first — first reality series together — will apparently never come to pass.

Johnson, known for the last several years as Chad Ochocinco, is an NFL football player who signed with the Miami Dolphins in the offseason. He and Lozada, who was once engaged to a former NBA basketball player, had a very public courtship on her reality series “Basketball Wives.” The pair got married last month and their wedding, which was filmed by VH1’s cameras, was set to be featured on the pair’s spinoff series “Ev & Ocho.”

However, the series — and the marriage — are being cancelled. Lozada filed for divorce from Johnson this week after less than six weeks of marriage. Johnson was arrested last weekend for allegedly head-butting his new bride after police say she confronted him and they fought over a receipt showing a condom purchase.

Johnson apparently told police that Lozada was the one who head-butted him. In any case, the damage has been done. Aside from being dropped by his new wife, Johnson was dropped from his new team: the Dolphins released him a day after the incident became public.

Johnson’s reality TV career suffered a double loss, as HBO is airing a series following the Dolphins called “Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Miami Dolphins.” It remains to be seen what his losses from the divorce might be, but it seems likely that the split will continue to play out in a very public manner.
