Basketball star Allen Iverson in child support dispute

Basketball player Allen Iverson remains in a child support dispute with his ex-wife as of August. The 38-year-old had previously played as a point guard with the Philadelphia 76ers from 1996 to 2006, and from 2009 to 2010. Iverson’s ex-wife has allegedly been seeking child support since their divorce in February.

The Iversons have five children, and their relationship has made headline news due to the player’s spot in the public eye. Iverson was allegedly ordered to pay his ex-wife $8,000 a month at the time of the divorce. The player apparently denied the court order. A federal judge then commanded Iverson to provide a retroactive back support of $40,000 for his delinquent payments.

Iverson’s ex-wife allegedly registered formal documents in August of this year. These orders act as inquiries to a federal judge to demand that Iverson produce upfront child payments. The documents cover everyday expenses and financial needs until their youngest child turns 18 years old in 2026. Reports claim that the child support will amount to over $1.2 million. It is currently unknown if the judge will rule in Iverson’s or his ex-wife’s favor.

Although the Iverson’s dispute is in the public eye, delinquent payments and refusal to pay child support is neither uncommon nor limited to a celebrity. The process of seeking outdated child support is stressful to both the parent involved and their children. States such as Texas have limitations on the amount of child support; however, a skilled attorney may be able to work with the parent and the court system to investigate delinquent payments. A child support attorney may be capable of convincing the court to enforce a support agreement so the family can be properly compensated.
